About
A daily edition for word lovers.
Wordist is a suite of original word games. New puzzles every day, made for people who love playing with language.
Wordist came about unexpectedly. I wanted to learn how to build something from concept to publishing. A word game seemed like a natural place to start. I enjoy playing them. They offered enough complexity for a learning project, and I could be creative while learning. The project turned out to be much more than I planned. I learned I really enjoy coming up with game concepts, designing their visuals, and building them. The original intent was for one game. I ended up with many. So, why not put them up for others to play?
Each game is its own thing, with its own visual character and feel. Some are quiet and meditative. Some are fast paced. Most can be played in 5-10 minutes.
Game philosophy
Original mechanics. Unique visuals.
Game ideas can start from anywhere: a name, a game mechanic, a theme, a different take on a classic. Wherever I started, I mostly found it effective to make the theme work with the mechanic. Superposition is a good example. The idea of quantum entanglement applied to a word game led to a deductive puzzle, and the game mechanics match quantum mechanics concepts.
With a unique mechanic and theme for each game, I tried to design the games' visuals to match. Approaching games this way has helped me create a wide variety for the suite. Find the favorites you like to play everyday, or try a new one that fits your mood. You can keep track of your stats and streaks, and play previous days in the Archive.
Release schedule
Plenty more to come.
Wordist is launching with five games. Then a new game every week for about two months. After that, games will be released when ready.
- Now
- Five games at launch.
- Next
- A new game every week, for roughly two months.
- Beyond
- New games arrive as they're ready.
- Long term
- A suite of twenty-five to thirty distinct games.
That's the plan. Maybe some more games if ideas hit right.
